🔗 Share this article Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the last five race weekends. Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds. Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT. The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his team opted for a different programme. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting. Tsunoda slid over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the wall. The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the high-speed corner approaching the final corner on to the main straight. Hamilton ended the session in 19th, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver. The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs off the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
